There's been a strange smell (and taste) in the water here recently, and in several .. Davis County cities -- bad enough that people have wondered if the water is safe to drink. "It is. We've tested the water, and all tests have come out clean," said Tage Flint, General Manager of Weber Basin Water Conservancy Dsitrict. "We go to great lengths to ensure it is (safe)," he said. "Its just aesthetically not as pleasing." The smell is an annual thing, caused by algae blooming in the Weber River, and its been described variously as moldy, musty or grassy.
Quiet Zone Coming Soon!!
The horns at the local rail road crossings may soon be a thing of the past. Mayor Behunin recently signed the paperwork certifying that all the necessary steps have been taken to qualify our stretch of the Union Pacific Railroad as a quiet zone. Within the next 30 to 60 days of receiving the documentation, the U.S. Department of Transportation is expected to declare the area a quiet zone for all rail traffic.
Once the FrontRunner commuter trains begin operations, they will be required to sound their horns for 20 days to help people become aware of the new traffic at each crossing. Once the 209 days have passed, they will only sound the horns when they observe someone on the tracks.
